About Camp Curious

(Behind every great camp is a great story, a great team… and lots of caffeinated beverages!)

A camp story

First there was curious.com

Curious.com was founded in 2013 on the premise of connecting the world’s teachers and lifelong learners. Seven years later, our apps have been used by millions of people in every country in the world (including North Korea) to put a little learnin’ in their daily cup. This is thanks largely to over 2,000 teachers who have built over 50,000 lessons and curios.

Then we didn’t do this idea we had

While we dabbled in live learning experiences (see Curious Conversations) and school partnerships, curious.com has largely remained an “asynchronous” learning platform for adults. Efficient, convenient and profitable, yes. But ever since we had our own kids, we’ve wondered why there isn’t something like curious.com just for kids. Possibly even with a “live” component? Maybe we should build it? But we never did.

Then there was a global pandemic

All that it took was a global pandemic crisis. With everyone on Zoom, schools going virtual, summer camps cancelled, and college kids internship-less, the table was set. Once we had the idea, and got buy-in from our Curious teachers, we knew the world needed us to build Camp Curious. Heck, our own kids needed us to build it.

Camp Curious Core Values

We pledge to operate Camp Curious according to the following core values, and respectfully ask our partners, campers and parents to do the same.

Fun.

The whole point of camp is having fun! We will strive to make every minute of Camp Curious engaging and fun—by making learning fun. Creativity and positivity will lead the way to everybody having a great time.

Wellness.

Each campers’ physical safety and mental health is the top priority of every staff member. On top of that, we have a collective passion for exercise, nutrition and mindfulness. There’s never been a more important time to be well!

Growth.

Camp Curious will allow campers to explore new subjects, deepen understanding of familiar topics, develop their inner athlete, and build social confidence. In other words, foster a mindset of growth.

Access for all.

One silver lining of a shelter-in-place is that kids from all geographies and circumstances are stuck at home. Which means our virtual camp has the potential to be more diverse than any physical camp could ever be. No physical, financial or technical limitations will prevent a kid from being curious.

Community.

Learning and fun are best done with other people! Our virtual community will be built on respect, inclusiveness and accountability. We are all at our best when we are doing our best for all.

Camp Curious Scholarship Fund

We have established the Camp Curious Scholarship Fund to ensure that ALL children can attend Camp Curious, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. 50% and 80% discounts are available based on need. To request a scholarship, please email scholarships@curious.com. Parents may be asked to provide third party documentation from a school district or local utility. We can’t put a price on curiosity!

Our team

Our curious.com teachers

The teachers and and newly-assembled camp staff of curious.com are leading the effort to put on Camp Curious. Stay tuned for a full lineup of camp teachers and learn more about the curious.com team and mission here.

Amazing counselors

This camp wouldn’t be possible without the dozens of amazing college students who are dedicating their summers to this venture. With so many college internships cancelled, we have attracted an impressive array of skilled and enthusiastic young people ready to create new virtual camp cheers and don silly hats.

Partner organizations

Besides our internal resources, we have assembled an army of 3rd party innovators who are supporting Camp Curious. Special thanks to our corporate partners, including Super Soccer Stars, 4CITY Youth Leagues, eCoach and Esface. We couldn’t do it without you!

The curious camper pledge

“As curious campers, we pledge to challenge ourselves, try new things, be kind to ourselves and others, never ever be bored, and HAVE FUN!”
